Privacy Policy
Effective date: 30 September 2026
ChatSA helps job seekers in South Africa tailor their CVs to job adverts. We take your privacy seriously. This page explains what information we handle, why, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who we are
ChatSA is run by Thato Makiri (“ChatSA”, “we”, “us”), based in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
Contact: shawnmakiri016@gmail.com
ChatSA is currently in a private beta, which means it is being tested by a small group of invited users.
What information we handle
1. Documents you give the ChatSA app
When you use the app at app.xhatsa.co.za, you may paste or upload:
- a job advert,
- your CV,
- certificates, qualifications and other details about your experience.
Your CV may contain personal information such as your name, contact details, education and work history.
2. Beta sign-up details
If you sign up for the beta on our website, we collect your name, email address and WhatsApp number.
3. Basic technical information
Like most websites, our hosting providers automatically record basic technical details such as your IP address, browser type and the time of your visit. These are used to keep the service running and secure.
How we use your information
- Your documents are used only to create YOUR ChatSA report: your match scores, the recruiter feedback, the CV edits, and any cover letter, messages or interview preparation you ask for.
- Your sign-up details are used only to contact you about the beta: sending you access, updates, and asking for your feedback.
- We never sell your information, and we never use it for advertising.
We do not store your CV
When you tap a button in the app, your documents are sent securely (encrypted) to Claude, an AI system made by Anthropic, which writes your report. The report is shown in your browser.
ChatSA does not save your CV, your documents or your reports on our servers. When you close the page, your report is gone unless you have copied it.
If you tick “Keep my CV on this device”, your CV is saved only in your own web browser on your own device, so you don’t have to paste it again. We cannot see it. Untick the box, or clear your browser data, to remove it.
During the private beta. While ChatSA is in private beta, some reports are prepared manually. If you send your CV by email or WhatsApp, I receive it personally, use it only to prepare your report, and delete it from my inbox and phone within 14 days of sending your report back. No one else sees it.
Who processes your information for us
We use trusted service providers to run ChatSA:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Anthropic (Claude) | Reads your documents to generate your report |
| Vercel | Hosts the ChatSA app |
| Domains.co.za | Hosts this website and the beta sign-up form |
Anthropic and Vercel are based in the United States, so your information is processed outside South Africa. These providers are bound by their own privacy and security commitments. Anthropic states that it does not use information sent through its business service (API) to train its AI models by default. By using ChatSA, you agree to this transfer, as permitted under section 72 of POPIA.
How long we keep information
- CVs and documents: not stored by ChatSA. Our AI provider may keep them for a limited time under its own policies, for security and abuse-prevention purposes.
- Beta sign-up details: kept until the beta ends, or until you ask us to delete them.
- Technical logs: kept for a short time by our hosting providers, then deleted automatically.
Please be careful what you share
Only include information you are comfortable sharing, and NEVER include your ID number, bank details or passwords in your CV or documents. ChatSA doesn’t need them.
Accuracy of results
ChatSA’s reports are generated by AI and may contain mistakes/ ‘hallucinations’. ChatSA is designed never to invent experience or qualifications, but always read and check every edit before you send your CV. You are responsible for the final CV you submit.
Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you,
- ask us to correct or delete it,
- object to us using it,
- withdraw your consent at any time.
To do any of these, email shawnmakiri016@gmail.com. We will respond within a reasonable time.
If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, you can lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa):
- Website: inforegulator.org.za
- Email: POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za
Children
ChatSA is intended for people aged 18 and older.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as ChatSA grows, for example when we add accounts or payments. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date at the top.
